At the heart of the Baanwa Pitch Competition is the legacy of an extraordinary woman, Augustina Baanwa, the matriarch of our family. Born into a time when educational opportunities for women were scarce, she relied on her innate street smarts, making meaningful connections and finding innovative solutions to everyday challenges. Her ability to think outside the box and tackle problems head-on inspired everyone around her. Today, her spirit of innovation and resilience lives on through this contest.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become successful entrepreneurs. Through our annual business pitch contest, we provide a platform for students to showcase their business ideas, gain valuable feedback, and access mentorship and funding opportunities to bring their visions to life. By investing in the potential of young minds, we aim to foster a generation of leaders who are not only ready to face the challenges of tomorrow but also eager to create meaningful impact.

Our Program

The contest begins each academic year with an announcement inviting students to submit their innovative business ideas. These submissions undergo a thorough review by an esteemed panel of external and internal experts, culminating in a dynamic presentation event where finalists pitch their ideas live. The best ideas and pitches are recognized and rewarded with monetary awards, mentorship opportunities, and the potential for future funding.

Our Vision

While the program currently celebrates and nurtures the talent within St. Augustine’s College, our vision extends far beyond.
